The liver is considered to be the natural detoxifier of your body. But that doesn’t mean it won’t face any damage. A healthy liver is capable of replacing the damaged cells with a new one but it takes some time. But due to our lifestyle and eating habits, our liver is exposed to a lot of damage.

Truth:

Like I said earlier, our liver is capable of repairing itself. In fact, it is the only organ that can regenerate. So, unless it is damaged or you have any liver disorder, you don’t need to take liver supplements to detoxify it or help it work better.

Researchers have said, Organic liver supplements can, in fact, help to treat fatty liver. However, you can’t just take the liver supplements and hope that your liver will get better. You still need to follow a proper diet, exercise and avoid alcohol.

It can help you come out of alcohol addiction.

Truth:

This depends on the ingredients used in the supplement you are taking. There are certain drugs like acamprosate, naltrexone can help get out of alcohol addiction.

Most manufacturers include artichoke leaf in their liver supplements. Researchers have found that it can help in the regeneration of liver cells.

Warning:

Liver supplements can be extremely beneficial for people with liver disorders. But just because it says “Natural” or “Organic” doesn’t mean there won’t be any side effects.

Milk thistle, one of the main ingredients of liver supplements can cause nausea, vomiting if taken in high dosage.

Certain liver supplements that include licorice root can increase blood pressure in certain individuals (unless the licorice is processed to remove glycyrrhizin).

So, make sure to read the ingredients before purchasing any “Liver tonic” and consult a doctor to find the right dosage for you.
